Ahoy and welcome to another Battlefield Pirates 2 news update! The water is always warm and the time is always right for pirating and plundering in the Caribbean, and despite winter in the north, we've compiled some new material for you to see! This update will focus on Brother Justice's map Shallow Draft, which has just been finished, and a look into flag design. Let's get started!
Shallow Draft
"As the unpredictable deadly storms march through the region this cold season, two crews find themselves stranded. As the storm begins to clear and the night awakens with the presence of the wicked full moon the Peglegs and the Undead must battle each other to survive. Control the precious resources that other wayward crews left here long ago and use all means necessary to survive.
Control the large ship wreck to the northeast for control of a salvaged runabout. The Outposts will give either team the advantage of having the middle ground but also an attack route to the smugglers camp. The Smugglers' Camp is the flag to hold for rum, ammunition, and other resources. Control of the flag is vital to the team who is to survive the lonely atoll. The Stone Archway flag will be vital for control of the southern region of the atoll, with is an easy approach to the Smugglers' Camp, and this flag will be important for either team."
Shallow Draft was tirelessly created by Brother Justice with contributions by other mappers, and features models by Animonster, Kuba, Bunnysnot, 1/2Hawk and by Brother Justice himself, with skinning and exporting by Brother Justice, 1/2Hawk, and Catbox. Lightmapping was preformed by 1/2Hawk.
This dark and spooky map has some unique features: a ghostly sky created by Wegvisor, a threatening stone archway and a gloomy shipwreck. This map has been carefully crafted and balanced for thrilling gameplay, and will be beta tested shortly. Despite being a dark map, textures and lightmaps have been set so that it is easy to see your enemy, and does not suffer from the same problems that dark maps may have suffered from in BFP1. In addition, our ships' cartographer PiratePlunder has created minimaps for not only Shallow Draft but for other maps as well, as shown in the loading screen. Shallow Draft is bound to be a hit with old BFP fans and new landlubbers alike! -- check it out for yourself:

Flag Design
We'd like to complete our media update with a bit of art. Flag design is, as such, a surprisingly important element of the game. BF2 veterans know that one may spend quite some time staring at the slowly ascending flag when capping flags, nervously waiting and hoping to stay alive until the flag reaches its summit. The discussion for the flags for the Undead and Peglegs has been an ongoing debate within the staff forums, with many designs proposed by the whole crew in an effort to find some flags which will truly represent each team.
For the Undead flag, we chose red as the background and used silhouettes of our in-game weapons to best represent the ruthlessness of the Undead. For the Peglegs', we took our inspiration from the famous pirate Henry Every and modified it slightly with cutlasses. Alas, these are still not the final flag designs, but have served us very well for internal beta testing while Bibi improves upon the designs. View the images below:

The flagpole is also a custom design modeled by Kuba and skinned by Tibmaker. You can see the full flagpole below, again taken through the telescope.
