What in the world is 1/2Hawk doing with this parrot?!? Come inside to read the article and find out!

---===---

All pirates love the smell of fresh gun powder in the morning! And so, there are many things in BFP2 that go BOOM. Almost all of the weaponry in the mod requires gun powder to operate, and supplies are very limited. If you dont have a friendly Gunner nearby to toss you a satchel, then you can stock up by checking the HUD for a nearby powder keg. You can tell if a barrel offers powder by the warning painted on the side. These resupply ammunition much like the ammo boxes in BF42, but keep your visit short because powderkegs are also highly explosive!

If you're feeling weary from the battle, a little grog goes a long way to restore your constitution. If the team's Surgeon isnt around to toss you a mini grog keg, then you may also find a stash of grog on the HUD as well. These are also marked to tell you whats inside, and work like the medic closets in BF42. Like the powder kegs, be careful that enemy forces arent nearby because these will also explode when shot. While grog barrels dont have large blast radii, they do burst into flames which can likewise send you to Davy Jones' locker in a hurry.

Large cast iron grenades and grenade launchers will help clear the decks, and of course the myriad of cannons, falconets, port cannons, carronades and mortars also pack quite an explosive punch. Those paying attention to the R2 Maps Preview video on YouTube may have noticed three additional weapons that get the job done using black powder:

- The Crossbones Keep overview shows off a biergleiter dropping several coconut bombs.
- The Wake Island 1707 overview shows off a hot air balloon dropping lit powderkeg charges.
- The Pressgang Port overview shows off the Crab4 being used to blow up a bridge.

In case you missed it, those previews can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCrdW7lTmz0

When we first introduced the aircraft in the mod, many in the community were worried that flyboys would pwn those on the ground or sea who would be unable to defend themselves. Well no worries mateys! If you happen to find a parrot perched somewhere on a map, you can snag him [as a pickup kit] - load him up with a powder charge, and let him loose at an enemy aircraft. The bird will chase after the craft until the fuse hits bottom (so to speak) and KABOOM! Note that planes can attempt to defend themselves by tossing birdseed overboard.

You dont even want to know where this goes...

More to come!

I like the fact that it is a pickup kit. Otherwise some things could get unbalanced.

Really nice idea with the parrot. Exploding

Another goodie could be: bottles as kind of one-time temporary "stun" weapons when used directly on an enemy.

BtW: Can you tell us a new ETA for the release? Or shoot me in order to kill the pain? Very Happy

The biggest thing we're looking at in regards to a release date is *some* word from EA about when they might drop the 1.5 BF2 patch. We dont want to get a lot of people up in here playing pirates, have that patch screw something up, and then lose 70% of the players because they dont bother to go download a version 2.1 hotifx, right... So until then we're working hard everyday to sexy up the mod and make it better and better. Could probably release tomorrow with what we got but if y'all want to have a longer lasting community to play with, I think we ought to wait just a little bit to see how EA/DICE might screw it all up. If we dont hear squat in the next couple weeks, then theres always Int'l Talk Like a Pirate Day coming up next month which seems as good a day as any being our only holiday in the year.

That'd be funny if you released it then. I seriously doubt EA's gonna do the 1.5 patch though. Recently EA's been being lax about their BF productions - Heros has been delayed and BF3 was supposed to be announced by now and it's not. No matter, your concern is legitimate.
By the way, how does the homing work with the parrot? Is it like a portable stinger from other mods or does it just go for the closest enemy heat source? If it's like the stinger, how does the HUD work?

EDIT - Speaking of ready to go soon, did you guys ever try out my Jungle Isle map?

As long as there are frequent updates on R2, ]I'm willing to wait another months, and if I see something awesome, 6. EDIT: It is all awesome. Very Happy

Any word on a custom map pack coming together yet? We have some pretty much finished maps in the project section by Quint, elander, myself, and random other people that seemed to have finished maps but never uploaded.
