Many aspects of Battlefield 5 will be tested in the upcoming closed alpha, this is just one of several tests planned before the actual game launch itself. Today we will go through some of the weaponry and classes that will be put to the test in closed alpha.

*Disclaimer – Closed alpha is a pre-release of the actual game, and can undergo changes before the actual release. Some content in this topic may have changed between closed alpha and the full release.

Why do we do closed alpha testing?

Closed alpha testing can help determine if a game is stable, reliable, and overall just fun to play. With many people participating and providing feedback on their experiences, the game can be fine tuned and free of bugs or glitches for the release date. This ensures an enjoyable and error free gaming experience.

Factions and Map

There are 2 factions fighting for glory in battlefield 5: Germany and Great Britain. They set out to fight in the town of Narvik on the map Arctic Fjord. Based on the German occupation of Norway in 1940, the Germans need a steady supply of resources to ensure their war keeps going, this will lead you to fight and defend the crucial ports in this frozen wasteland, which is sure to have something for every play style.

New and Classic Game Modes

There will be new game modes as well as the popular well known ones tested in this alpha. Grand Operations, a large scale battle spanning over several in-game “days” will be available. This combines several different modes of play in Battlefield and melds them into one. Only 2 of them are being tested in this alpha: Airborne and Breakthrough.

In Airborne players will paradrop into the map to deal with enemy artillery, or if you are on the other team you will defend against this paradrop.

For Breakthrough, you will be required to either capture, or defend certain sectors, depending on which team you are on.

Conquest is the already well-known game mode from previous versions of battlefield, in this massive battle two teams fight for control points, the longer you hold these points, the faster the opposing teams tickets deplete, the first team to run out of tickets loses.

Classes and Combat Roles

Closed alpha testing will include the 4 main classes: Assault, Support, Medic, Scout as well as some vehicle testing which will allow the use of the Tanker and Pilot classes. They have also added sub-classes for each role to allow you to fine tune your play style even further. For example, the medic class can take on the field surgeon combat role and make their character more effective through the use of the Syringe and Medical crate that come associated with it, or if you prefer a more aggressive approach, you can try the machine gunner combat role for the support class, which equips you with an MG34 as well as Flare gun gadgets. Adding these combat roles to classes allows you to diversify and strengthen your character to your needs.

Weapons, Gadgets, Reinforcements

If you have played Battlefield before, then you already know there are tons of weapons to choose from, that will be no different with Battlefield 5. You can still snipe enemies from afar with a scoped weapon, or go in close for the kill with dynamite.

Reinforcements can be called upon by a squad leader once your team has accumulated enough points. Reinforcements are powerful attacks with devastating effects, you can choose from either the V1 Rocket, which has a large blast radius, or a churchill crocodile tank, which comes equipped with a flamethrower and minigun.

Squad Play

In closed alpha, a new system for getting a squad together is being tested. This should make the overall experience of creating a squad smoother. If you join a game by yourself, you will automatically be placed with a squad. The matchmaking process has also been improved upon, this should make finding a match more streamlined. In Battlefield 5 you are facing a war of attrition, which means it may be hard to come by ammo and health sometimes, you can always loot these from corpses of fallen enemies, or visit a supply station to restock.

Progression and Missions

New ways to challenge yourself on a daily basis, one special assignment, and several daily objectives. Assignments can be activated in the “Assignments” tab of the main menu, and add daily quest-style objectives for you to complete. Various skills such as different weapon usage as well as map based objectives will be available. These will rotate daily.

Here is a list of what will be covered in the closed alpha, be aware there is much more to do, and that this is just a small portion of what will be released!
